Welton Soapbox Derby 2023 - Licence to Drive

Your Soap Box: Anything goes, in design and shape. A realistic replica, or for those feeling creative - A Living Room, A fire Engine, A Submarine, A giant pram or a Garden Shed maybe! All of which we have seen!

Your Power: Gravity Alone! No Engines, No Pedals, No Batteries, No Electrics, No Gas, No Catapults, No Afterburners!

Your Brakes: You must have an independent and functional braking system, connected to the vehicle, and applied to a minimum of [Front or rear] 2x wheels. Steel toe-capped boots - not allowed!

Your Steering: You must have independent steering that will turn, at minimum 2 [front or rear] wheels, left and right.

Your Safety: Helmet, either cycling or motorbike. Gloves, Long trousers, Long sleeved top. Elbow Pads, Knee Pads, recommended!

Your Construction: All vehicles must be no more than 2m wide x 2.5m tall x 5m long. Must be at least 10cm off the ground. Vehicles must not weigh more than 80kg (excluding driver). Pre-fabricated vehicles will not be allowed to race! All Soapbox vehicles will be officially checked prior to racing - if any are deemed as un-safe, they will not be allowed to enter. No refund, if excluded.

Your Team: Should consist of 4 people minimum including driver. A co-driver is optional. 2 team members to push start.

Cost to Enter: £20 per driver, plus booking fee across all age groups. You can have multiple drivers of the same soapbox.

Licence to Drive: Each paid-up driver will be given a licence to drive. This licence will cover you for the duration of the race day ; is not redeemable and cannot be transferred. No refunds. Your grid position will not be confirmed until pre-payment is received in full.

Number of Runs: The committee are unable to guarantee a specific number of runs per Soapbox.

Driver Or Co-Driver under 16 Years: If a driver is under 16 Years of age. Consent must be provided and signed for below by Parent/Guardian.
